The Head: One-shot TTRPG

Vassago's body lays before you. His head is in your backpack. The labyrinth goes on forever. It’s your home. It’s everyone’s home. Maybe you'll get out some day, but right now you have to deliver this head to the Duchess. 

The Head is a 1-page, 1-session roleplaying game (RPG) by Levon Jihanian — set in a mysterious, labyrinthine world. The player characters have just cut off Vassago’s head and are tasked with delivering it to the Dutchess, who lives at the palace at the center of the labyrinth. The game builds on the mechanics of Fuck! It’s Dracula and The Agony of Elves.

The open-ended setting and rules have several features, including:

• Fun for 2-6 players, with one player serving as the Game Master(GM)
• Simple, yet elegant rules that are great for beginner and experienced tabletop RPG players
• Quick gameplay with no preparation needed, whatsoever. You can get a game started within 2 minutes of picking up this game for the very first time.
• Compact layout, with the game contained on a single 4x6 postcard
• Minimal material requirements. Just two standard 6-sided dice and some index cards are needed to play
• Evocative and simple rules make it an ideal Actual Play oneshot
• Open-ended lore, meaning that every game is different and there’s unlimited replayability

Through play, you will answer the questions:

• What is the nature of this world?
• Who was Vassago? And why did he lose his head?
• Who is the Dutchess? And what do we owe her?
• Who are we? And what happens if we complete our mission?

The Head can be a fun exploration action game, or an introspective game about building the systems of our own oppression. Either way, it’s the perfect game for your tabletop RPG group.
